PUTRAJAYA, June 23 — The government has introduced a new structure under the BUDI Madani Diesel (BUDI Diesel) programme, setting a base eligibility of up to 200 litres per month for qualified individuals. The allocation can be used flexibly to purchase either subsidised diesel or RON95 petrol.

Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the flexible approach ensures subsidies are better aligned with actual fuel usage, regardless of fuel type. He added that this allows recipients to manage their monthly fuel needs more efficiently.

He also said private diesel vehicle owners such as pick-up truck and jeep users who qualify may apply for an additional 100 litres per month, bringing their total entitlement to up to 300 litres. This, he noted, is sufficient as an estimated 95 per cent of diesel users consume below that level.

The additional quota is intended to support those with higher fuel demands, including micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) traders and rural commuters, he said during a press conference attended by Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali and Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Johan Mahmood Merican.

Amir Hamzah said eligible diesel vehicle owners registered with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and holding valid road tax will automatically receive the 200-litre base quota without needing to register.

He added that subsidised diesel will be priced at RM2.10 per litre starting next month, and users can check their eligibility and quota through the official BUDI Madani portal at www.budimadani.gov.my from today. Pick-up and jeep owners may also apply for the extra 100-litre allocation via the same portal.

He further said that beyond private vehicle owners, subsidised diesel access via MyKad at the same price has been extended to river boat operators and genset users in rural areas, with cooperation between the federal government and the Sabah and Sarawak state governments to ensure wider coverage.

Amir Hamzah also clarified that no new infrastructure costs are required for the BUDI Diesel rollout, as existing systems used for BUDI RON95 can be adapted with only software adjustments to allow fuel-type selection.

On fuel supply, he assured that Malaysia’s fuel reserves remain stable due to ongoing coordination with Petronas and other oil companies. He said the “rolling” procurement system ensures continuous supply and reduces the risk of shortages.

“This ensures we do not have to worry that fuel will only last until August. Oil companies are always purchasing for the next two months and rolling forward another two months,” he said, adding that efforts to diversify fuel supply sources are ongoing. — Bernama
