SEOUL, March 20 — A fire at a car parts plant in South Korea on Friday left at least 21 people seriously injured and 14 others missing, authorities said.

The blaze broke out around 1pm (0400 GMT) in the central city of Daejeon.

Authorities issued an emergency order typically reserved for fires that exceed the response capacity of local firefighting services, according to Seoul’s Yonhap news agency. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

An official from the interior ministry’s disaster and fire management department told AFP that about 45 people were injured, with 21 believed to be in serious condition.

“Around 14 people are still believed to be missing,” the official added.
