ALOR SETAR, Feb 15 — A massive fire engulfed a poultry farm in Kampung Paya Muyud, Jitra, last night, killing approximately 48,000 chickens and destroying nearly 80 percent of the facility.

ALOR SETAR, Feb 15 — A massive fire engulfed a poultry farm in Kampung Paya Muyud, Jitra, last night, killing approximately 48,000 chickens and destroying nearly 80 percent of the facility.

Jitra Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohd Bustan Karudin said they received an emergency call at 11.01 pm, prompting a swift response.

A total of 26 firefighters from Jitra, Bukit Kayu Hitam, and Alor Setar stations were dispatched, supported by five volunteer firefighting teams from Bukit Pinang, Sebarang Nyonya, Pokok Sena, Jalan Kundur, and Kilang Tebu.

The semi-permanent poultry farm housed around 50,000 chickens before the blaze, leaving only a fraction of the livestock unscathed.
