KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 — Malaysia recorded over RM1.57 billion in fire losses from January to September this year, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said, calling for stronger prevention efforts.

He said the Fire and Rescue Department is replacing 40 ageing fire engines with 30 new units through a RM45 million CSR programme by CLW Automobile Malaysia to boost readiness and reduce maintenance costs.

Nga also expressed confidence in the department’s preparedness for the monsoon season, noting improved SOPs, simulation training and coordinated efforts with other agencies. The ministry will continue deploying the Ihsan Madani squads for flood relief and post-flood cleanups.- Bernama
