BATU PAHAT, Sept 25 — One person was killed after their vehicle caught fire at Pantai Sungai Lurus yesterday.

Senior Operations Commander, Fire and Rescue Assistant Superintendent Norhisham Abdul Talib, said the department received an emergency call at 4.51pm, and eight firefighters from the Rengit Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were deployed to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the team confirmed that a car was ablaze. However, the fire engine could not reach the beach area due to the narrow access road.

“The firefighters had to borrow motorcycles from the public to get to the site, which was about two kilometres away. One victim was found inside the vehicle, and initial firefighting efforts were carried out using water drawn from a nearby river with buckets,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Batu Pahat district police chief ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said investigations are ongoing to identify the victim and determine the cause of the fire. — Bernama
