HONG KONG, Feb 26 — The father of wanted pro-democracy activist Anna Kwok was sentenced to eight months in prison under Hong Kong’s national security law, the first conviction under the new Article 23.

Kwok Yin-sang, 69, was found guilty of attempting to access his daughter’s insurance funds, totaling HK$88,609 (US$11,342). Anna, a leader of the Hong Kong Democracy Council, is one of 34 overseas activists wanted for alleged collusion with foreign forces.

She called the conviction “guilt by blood” and “transnational repression,” noting the policy was never in her name. Magistrate Andy Cheng said the case was serious under the law and unrelated to family ties. — Reuters
