NEW YORK, May 23 — The Trump administration yesterday revoked Harvard University’s authorization to enroll foreign students—who make up over a quarter of its student body—in a sharp escalation of the president’s conflict with the prestigious institution.
KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 — The principal of Foon Yew High School’s Kulai campus has stepped down amid a growing sexual misconduct scandal and mounting criticism over the school’s handling of student complaints.
Gan Chuang Chee tendered his resignation on April 12, which was accepted by the school board during a meeting the following day.
“After thorough deliberation, the board of directors unanimously agreed to respect Principal Gan’s decision to resign,” the school stated in an announcement on its official website.
Founded in 1913, Foon Yew High School is Malaysia’s largest Chinese independent school, with campuses in Stulang Laut, Kulai, and Masai.
The scandal erupted earlier this month when a male student was accused of producing and selling deepfake pornographic images of fellow students and teachers. Victims claimed the school failed to act on their reports.
Police have since arrested a 16-year-old believed to be the mastermind, along with a 19-year-old accomplice. The school announced on April 10 that the student responsible had been expelled.
More allegations have since surfaced, including one from a 2012 graduate who claimed a male teacher at the Kulai campus repeatedly touched her inappropriately when she was a student.
She said it took over a decade of therapy and reflection — influenced in part by Taiwan’s #MeToo movement in 2023 — to fully understand the experience as abuse of power rather than misplaced affection.
