BANGKOK, April 24 — Thailand’s Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a petition accusing 44 current and former opposition lawmakers of ethics violations over their 2021 move to amend a law protecting the monarchy from criticism, according to Thai media reports.
MUAR, Sept 19 — A 32-year-old former technician has been remanded for seven days for allegedly setting fire to his family home and injuring his father.
The Muar Magistrate’s Court approved the remand order, which lasts until next Wednesday, to assist police investigations. The suspect, who reportedly has mental health issues and tested positive for drugs, is currently receiving treatment and undergoing psychiatric observation at Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital (HPSF), where the proceedings were held.
Muar district police chief ACP Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the incident took place at 9.43am on Wednesday in Kampung Tengah, Jalan Bakri, where the suspect allegedly attacked his 70-year-old father with a cane and a knife.
The case is being investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire and Section 324 for causing hurt with dangerous weapons.
“The blaze also destroyed a motorcycle and a car, with total losses estimated at RM150,000,” Raiz said. — Bernama
