GEORGE TOWN, May 31 — Beginning June 1, five major roads in George Town will be designated as no-waiting zones to ease traffic congestion caused by vehicles stopping along the roadside.

The Penang City Council (MBPP) announced the move in a Facebook post yesterday, stating that vehicles stopping or waiting on the roadside reduce lane capacity, leading to slower traffic and congestion.

To address this, MBPP has implemented no-stop zones at the following locations:

A stretch of Jalan Jelutong from Jalan Ahmad Nor to Jalan Bukit Dumbar

A section of Burma Road from Cantonment Road to Jones Road

Part of Macalister Road from Anson Road to Penang Road

A portion of Pengkalan Weld from Gat Lebuh Melayu to Gat Lebuh Chulia

A section of Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling from Lebuh Bishop to Lebuh Chulia

No-stop signs and double yellow lines have been installed on all affected routes to alert motorists of the restriction.

MBPP also warned that enforcement actions will be taken against any vehicle found stopping or parking in the designated zones, in order to maintain smooth traffic flow and prevent bottlenecks.
