KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 — Four senior medical professionals are reportedly being considered for the position of Health Director-General.

According to a report by Free Malaysia Today (FMT), the post has remained vacant following the recent retirement of Datuk Dr Radzi Abu Hassan, who stepped down earlier this month upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60.

FMT sources revealed that the potential candidates include Deputy Health Director-General (Research and Technical Support) Datuk Dr Nor Fariza Ngah and Deputy Health Director (Medicine) Datuk Dr Nor Azimi Yunus.

Also said to be in the running are Datuk Dr Basheer Ahamed Abdul Kareem, Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Health Ministry, and Dr R Harikrishna Nair, Director of Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Dr Basheer and Dr Harikrishna reportedly have about five years of service remaining, while Dr Nor Fariza and Dr Nor Azimi are expected to retire next year.

All four candidates have extensive experience in senior leadership roles and are well-regarded for their contributions to the public healthcare system.

The report also mentioned that Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad is expected to present the proposed appointment to the Cabinet for approval in the near future.
