SYDNEY, June 4 — Tech giant Meta has criticised Australia’s “grossly unfair” proposal to require social media companies to pay for news content, saying it strongly opposes the draft legislation.
SYDNEY, June 3 — A Frenchman was still eating a McDonald’s meal when police detained him after he allegedly crashed a car into a fountain in Sydney, authorities said.
Police Inspector Anderson Lessing said, “Strangely, he was still eating Macca’s there,” as the 21-year-old was charged with negligent driving.
Officers said the man reversed an SUV into the Archibald Fountain in Hyde Park in central Sydney in the early hours of the morning.
“Half of it was sticking inside, and half was sticking out, with the driver still inside,” Lessing told 702 ABC Sydney.
Police images showed the vehicle’s rear wheels lodged in the fountain pool, with the front end resting on the stone edge.
Authorities did not disclose what food the man had ordered.
The suspect reportedly claimed he was delivering a food order at the time of the incident, which caused an estimated A$15,000 (US$10,700) in damage.
