Storm Byron’s heavy rains have worsened conditions for thousands displaced by years of conflict. Two children died in Gaza City and one in Khan Yunis due to cold exposure, while six people were killed when a house collapsed and four more died in separate building collapses.

Many residents, living in tents or makeshift shelters, lack dry clothing or blankets, with children sleeping in wet bedding. The UN warned that poor drainage and winter conditions could trigger a rise in respiratory infections. — AFP
