LOS ANGELES, Dec 7 — Spectacular lava fountains burst from Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano on Saturday, US volcanologists said, nearly a year after one of the world’s most active volcanoes began its latest eruptive phase.
KOTA KINABALU, Sept 14 — The number of flood victims in Sabah rose to 400 people from 125 families as of 9am today, up from 391 people from 126 families yesterday.
In a statement, the Sabah Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) said the number of evacuees in Penampang had decreased to 247 people (74 families), while Beaufort saw an increase to 153 people (51 families).
In Penampang, victims are housed at three relief centres (PPS): Penampang Sports Complex (36 people from six families), Dewan Huguan Siau (147 people from 49 families), and Sekolah Kebangsaan St Paul Kolopis (64 people from 19 families).
All evacuees in Beaufort are placed at the permanent relief centre (PPK) in Selagon.
“A total of 22 villages have been affected, including 14 in Penampang and eight in Beaufort,” JPBN said.
The committee also reported a slope collapse along Jalan Donggongon Papar Spurs, rendering the road from Papar to Kota Kinabalu completely impassable.
“The public is advised to use alternative routes to Kota Kinabalu,” it added.
Motorists travelling to Kota Kinabalu are advised to take the Papar-Kinarut-Lok Kawi road.
Meanwhile, flash floods hit several areas in Kota Kinabalu late last night — including Sembulan, Lido, Kolombong, Likas and Manggatal — after continuous heavy rain since yesterday evening. — Bernama
