HONG KONG, March 6 — Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai will not appeal his 20-year prison sentence for collusion with foreign forces and sedition, his lawyer confirmed on Friday.

A member of Lai’s legal team told Reuters that he would accept the sentence, which has drawn international criticism from countries including the United Kingdom and the United States.

Lai, 78, was convicted in December and sentenced in February on two counts of conspiracy to collude with foreign forces and one count of publishing seditious materials, concluding a legal battle that spanned nearly five years.

In a separate case last month, a Hong Kong court unexpectedly overturned Lai’s fraud conviction and prison sentence, following his 20-year sentencing. — Reuters
