NEW YORK, Dec 27 — Severe winter storms have disrupted holiday travel across the US, with 1,500 flights cancelled Friday and thousands more delayed. Over 40 million Americans are under winter storm warnings, while another 30 million face flood or storm alerts in California due to heavy rain.

New York is expecting up to 10 inches of snow overnight — the heaviest in four years — as temperatures drop amid an Arctic blast from Canada. The city’s three airports alone have reported 850 cancellations. Road crews are deployed to keep streets clear, and officials have urged caution for travelers.

Flight delays and cancellations are also affecting Chicago, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Michigan, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. California is beginning to recover after flooding forced temporary airport closures. — AFP
