KOTA BHARU, April 6 — Firefighters from the Rantau Panjang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) successfully contained three bushfires yesterday, two in Tasek Bakong and one in Banggol Kulim, Pasir Mas.

Acting station supervisor Mohd Khairuddin Mohd Nor said seven personnel were deployed after the fires broke out at different locations starting in the morning.

“We received the first distress call from residents at around 9.30am and immediately sent a team to respond.

“Two fires occurred in Kampung Tasek Bakong, affecting about 1.6 hectares. The team later moved to Kampung Banggol Kulim, where another fire involving approximately 0.8 hectares was reported,” he said.

He noted that each blaze took roughly an hour to extinguish, with the total affected area estimated at 2.4 hectares.

The fires involved rubber and banana plantations owned by villagers. However, prompt action by firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to nearby forested areas and residential zones.

Mohd Khairuddin added that hot and dry weather conditions contributed to the rapid spread of the fires, but swift response efforts ensured the situation was brought under control before it worsened. — Bernama
