BHUBANESWAR (India), Dec 26 — Indian security forces killed senior Maoist commander Ganesh Uike, who had a US$120,000 bounty, along with three other fighters, including two women, in a raid in Odisha, police said.

The Kandhamal district gunfight followed a tip-off about Uike’s location. No security personnel were harmed, and the identities of the other rebels are being verified. Two Maoist fighters were also killed in the state on Wednesday.

India has been intensifying its crackdown on the Naxalite rebellion, which once controlled about a third of the country, killing over 500 rebels since 2024. — AFP
