Individual Arrested for Skipping Court Appearance in False Social Media Claims Case Involving King and Rulers

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 — Authorities have arrested an individual who failed to appear in court to face charges related to false social media content implicating the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Conference of Rulers.‍

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 — Authorities have arrested an individual who failed to appear in court to face charges related to false social media content implicating the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Conference of Rulers.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), apprehended the suspect in Kuala Lumpur at 11pm after a Sepang Sessions Court judge issued an arrest warrant.

“The individual failed to attend the case mention on Feb 24, 2025 and is now in police custody. They will be brought before the court soon,” MCMC said in a statement.

The suspect faces charges under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588], which carries a maximum penalty of RM50,000 fine, one year in prison, or both upon conviction.
