JAKARTA, May 12 — Indonesia is preparing a bid to host the 2028 FIFA Futsal World Cup following its successful organisation of the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup earlier this year.
Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir said the proposal had been discussed with FIFA during its 76th Congress in Vancouver, Canada, on April 30.
“Yes, it was conveyed yesterday. Ultimately, FIFA will make the decision,” he told reporters at the 2026 Indonesian Futsal Federation (FFI) Ordinary Congress, according to Antara News Agency.
FFI chairman Michael Sianipar described the idea of hosting the World Cup as a “shared dream”, saying the ambition was strengthened by Indonesia’s successful staging of the AFC tournament. — Bernama
