Donald Trump is set to arrive in Beijing on Wednesday, marking the first visit by a US president to China in nearly a decade, as he seeks to advance trade discussions despite potential tensions over Taiwan and Iran.
IPOH, May 13 — A wheelchair-bound woman was killed while her 71-year-old mother was injured after a double-storey house at Parit 310, Bagan Tiang near Parit Buntar caught fire in the early hours of today.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received an emergency call at 2.34am, prompting firefighters from the Parit Buntar and Kuala Kurau stations to be deployed to the scene.
He said the blaze destroyed about 70 per cent of the two-storey house and also damaged a Proton Iriz.
“A 48-year-old disabled woman was found dead inside the premises, while her 71-year-old mother suffered injuries to both soles of her feet,” he said in a statement.
The injured victim was later handed over to the Ministry of Health Malaysia for treatment, while the deceased was sent to the police for further action.
In a separate incident, Sabarodzi said firefighters from the Bagan Serai station rescued a man who fell into a drain after his car skidded along Jalan Besar Bagan Serai–Taiping near Bagan Serai at about 2.30am.
He said the driver, believed to be in a Perodua Myvi, had veered off the road shoulder before being thrown into the drain. The 30-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The body was handed over to police for further action. — Bernama
