KAJANG, Sept 27 — A 12-month-old baby boy was killed and eight others injured in a four-vehicle collision at the Bukit Kajang Toll Plaza today.

The incident involved a three-tonne lorry carrying scrap materials, a Nissan X-Trail four-wheel drive belonging to the Public Works Department (JKR), a Honda City and a Proton X70.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said an emergency call was received at 11am.

“A six-member team from the Bangi Fire and Rescue Station was deployed and arrived within 11 minutes. We found a baby boy trapped beneath the Nissan X-Trail. He was extricated at 11.30am but was confirmed dead by Health Ministry personnel,” he said in a statement.

He added that a man trapped under the same vehicle was rescued about 10 minutes earlier and sent to hospital for treatment.

“The remaining seven victims, who sustained injuries, were taken to hospital by Health Ministry paramedics before firefighters arrived,” Ahmad Mukhlis said.

Kajang police are expected to issue a statement on the crash soon.
