MILAN, April 6 — Inter Milan boosted their Serie A title bid by thumping Roma 5-2 yesterday, moving nine points clear at the top and ending a late-season slump.

Argentina striker Lautaro Martinez returned from injury to score twice, while Marcus Thuram and Hakan Calhanoglu also found the net, with Nicolo Barella adding a fifth. Roma’s Gianluca Mancini and Lorenzo Pellegrini scored for the visitors, but the result dealt another blow to their Champions League hopes.

“Tonight was a big match for us… we had to come out with the right attitude and personality,” said Martinez.
