WASHINGTON, April 6 — US President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Iran, threatening major strikes on civilian infrastructure if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz amid rising global oil prices.
TEHRAN, March 29 — Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Sunday threatened to target US-linked universities across the Middle East, claiming that US-Israeli strikes had destroyed two Iranian universities.
In a statement carried by Iranian media, the Guard said: “If the US government wants its universities in the region to be free from retaliation, it must condemn the bombing of the universities in an official statement by 12 noon on Monday, March 30, Tehran time.”
It also advised “all employees, professors, and students of American universities in the region” as well as nearby residents to stay at least one kilometre away from campuses.
Several US universities operate branch campuses across the Gulf, including Texas A&M University in Qatar and New York University in the United Arab Emirates.
The warning followed overnight strikes from Friday to Saturday that hit parts of Tehran, including a science and technology university in the northeast of the capital. Reports said buildings were damaged but no casualties were recorded. — AFP
