ROME, May 17 — Italy's government has intensified its calls for an end to Israel's military operations in Gaza, with Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani declaring, “Enough with the attacks.”

“We no longer want to witness the suffering of the Palestinian people,” Tajani said during a visit to Sicily, according to remarks shared by his spokesperson.

“Let’s agree on a ceasefire, release the hostages, and stop targeting civilians who are victims of Hamas,” he added.

The Israeli military recently stated it is in the "initial stages" of a renewed offensive in Gaza aimed at defeating Hamas. The campaign resumed on March 18 after a two-month ceasefire, following Hamas’s October 2023 assault

According to Gaza’s civil defence agency, Israeli airstrikes killed more than 100 people yesterday and another 10 today.

Israel's actions—including its continued blockade on humanitarian aid—have drawn increasing international condemnation, as the humanitarian crisis worsens in the Gaza Strip, home to over two million people before the war began.
