JOHOR BARU, Oct 14 — The Johor Health Department has urged the public to remain calm and practise proper flu prevention measures following the emergence of nine influenza clusters in the state.

Johor health director Dr Mokhtar Pungut @ Ahmad assured that the situation is under control and there is no reason for public concern.

He advised individuals showing symptoms to seek medical attention promptly.

“If you experience flu-like symptoms, please seek immediate treatment and observe proper distancing while wearing a face mask. For affected institutions or schools, they must promptly inform the nearest district health office so that swift control measures can be implemented,” he told reporters after launching the Johor Bahru Mentari Centre in conjunction with the 2025 World Mental Health Day celebration at UTC today.

Dr Mokhtar said influenza is a common illness similar to the seasonal flu but stressed the importance of good flu etiquette — such as maintaining social distance, covering coughs and sneezes, and wearing masks — to prevent its spread.

As of last Saturday, nine influenza clusters have been reported in Johor, with no new ones detected.

One of the clusters was identified at the Special Education Integrated Programme (PPKI) class in Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Taman Permas Jaya 2.

Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon also confirmed that the overall situation remains under control.
