ISKANDAR PUTERI, March 18 — Johor police will submit the investigation paper on a slapping incident at a convenience store in a local shopping mall to the Deputy Public Prosecutor by Friday.

Johor police chief Datuk M. Kumar said the suspect, a 65-year-old local man, had his statement recorded yesterday. The 21-year-old victim was taken to the hospital, while statements from witnesses, including the suspect’s son and the attending doctor, are being gathered.

“This is an isolated case. Malaysians value tolerance, so let the authorities handle it,” Kumar urged, asking the public to avoid speculation.

The incident, which gained national attention, was reported by Johor Baru North police after the victim claimed he was slapped twice for refusing to show his MyKad when questioned about his religion. A video of the argument went viral on X (formerly Twitter).
