BANGKOK, April 24 — Thailand’s Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a petition accusing 44 current and former opposition lawmakers of ethics violations over their 2021 move to amend a law protecting the monarchy from criticism, according to Thai media reports.
MACHANG, March 8 — The Road Transport Department Malaysia (RTD) will deploy high-specification drones to monitor road users in Kelantan during this year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri enforcement operation.
Director-General Aedy Fadly Ramli said the drones are capable of recording and storing videos and images from long distances to identify motorists committing traffic offences.
He added that RTD personnel have undergone training and hold valid licences to operate the drones, with Kelantan selected as the first state for the initiative before it is expanded nationwide.
“We will begin using these drones starting March 13 to monitor the public’s journey back to their hometowns, and motorists who commit offences may be penalised via Notice 114,” he said after launching the JPJvBID App and Sahur Stop programme at the Labok Enforcement Station earlier today.
He explained that since amendments to the electronic summons bill have yet to be finalised, offenders will first receive Notice 114 requiring them to attend an interview session, where evidence from drone recordings will be presented.
“If they fail to show up, then we will issue a summons,” he said.
Meanwhile, the department also launched the JPJvBID app to manage online auctions of seized and forfeited vehicles, a move aimed at improving transparency, efficiency, and integrity in vehicle disposal.
Road Transport Department Selangor will conduct the pilot auction featuring 30 vehicles, including motorcycles, cars and scrap vehicles.
Physical inspections will no longer be allowed, with bidders required to rely solely on images provided in the app.
The JPJvBID app will be available for download starting March 10 via Google Play Store, Apple App Store and Huawei AppGallery using an existing MyJPJ ID or a new registration through the RTD portal.
Bidding e-catalogues will go on sale from March 18 at RM50 per series, with the first auction session scheduled from April 1 to 5.
Aedy said the initiative is expected to strengthen integrity in the management of seized vehicles while improving service delivery efficiency. — Bernama
