KAJANG, Sept 16 — A security guard died after being attacked by an acquaintance during a fight in a Semenyih residential area early yesterday.

Harian Metro reported that the 38-year-old victim, who suffered injuries to his hands and body, was pronounced dead at Kajang Hospital.

Kajang district police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said officers were alerted at 1.13am by a lorry driver who reported a dispute involving the victim, whom he knew.

The 37-year-old complainant said he had been drinking at a field in a nearby housing area when a brawl erupted, during which his finger was cut by a sharp object. He and four friends then left the scene.

However, some of the group allegedly returned to the victim’s home around 4.30am. On arrival, one of them allegedly attacked the victim with a sharp weapon, causing wounds to his hands and body. He was rushed to hospital and later confirmed dead. A post-mortem was scheduled for 9am today.

Police have arrested five men aged 31 to 37 and seized the weapon believed to have been used. Checks showed four suspects have prior criminal and drug-related records, while the victim had seven previous criminal records.

All suspects will be remanded as the case is investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. Members of the public with information may contact Investigating Officer ASP Ong Eng Yew at 012-696 6849 or go to the nearest police station.
