KOTA BHARU, Dec 2 — Police arrested a university student in Jeli yesterday for obstructing officers and driving recklessly during a patrol check.

Jeli district police chief Supt Kamarulzaman Harun said the 3.30pm incident began when a Perodua Myvi, spotted behaving suspiciously in Kampung Sungai Rual, sped off instead of stopping for inspection. A chase ensued before the car was intercepted in Kampung Rabbana.

The driver attempted to flee and resisted arrest, resulting in a brief scuffle. A teenage female student was also found in the vehicle. Both have no prior criminal records and reportedly panicked at the sight of police.

The case is being investigated under Sections 186 and 279 of the Penal Code, with a remand application for the male driver to follow. — Bernama
