BANGKOK, April 24 — Thailand’s Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a petition accusing 44 current and former opposition lawmakers of ethics violations over their 2021 move to amend a law protecting the monarchy from criticism, according to Thai media reports.
CHUKAI, March 5 — A 10-year-old boy was injured after being struck by a pellet believed to have been fired from a neighbour’s air rifle in an incident at Felda Seberang Tayor near here yesterday.
Kemaman district police chief Mohd Razi Rosli said the incident happened at about 3.45pm while the victim was playing with his older brother in front of their house.
He said the boy suddenly cried out after feeling pain on the left side of his back.
“The victim’s mother checked him and noticed a reddish mark on his back. A silver-coloured steel pellet was also found in front of the house,” he said when contacted today.
The victim’s father, a 36-year-old construction worker, suspected the pellet had been fired from his neighbour’s air rifle located opposite their home.
The father later lodged a police report at the Ayer Putih police station at about 5pm yesterday, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
“The suspect admitted to firing a single shot towards his neighbour’s house from about 40 metres away through the window of his home, but claimed he did not expect the shot to hit the victim,” he said.
Police seized two air rifles measuring 123cm and 107cm in length, along with nine steel pellets.
Initial investigations found that one of the air rifles had been purchased through Facebook about a year ago, while the other was homemade. The suspect reportedly used the weapons to shoot birds.
Mohd Razi added that a urine test conducted on the suspect returned positive for morphine, and he has 10 prior records related to criminal and drug offences.
“The victim was taken to Kemaman Hospital for treatment, while the suspect has been remanded for four days until Sunday to assist investigations under Section 8 of the Arms Act 1960 and Section 324 of the Penal Code,” he said. — Bernama
