KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 — His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, has issued a stern reminder to all Malaysians that the Jalur Gemilang is a symbol of national sovereignty and identity that must never be disrespected or misrepresented.

This came in response to a recent incident involving a local Chinese-language daily, which featured an image of the national flag on its front page—omitting the crescent moon. His Majesty warned that such an oversight could deeply offend public sentiment and must not be taken lightly.

“As citizens, we should display the national flag with pride and a strong sense of patriotism within our multiracial society,” the King stated in a Facebook post.

He further emphasised that the flag is far more than just a piece of coloured fabric—it embodies Malaysia’s struggles, rich history, independence, and the enduring spirit of its people.

In light of the incident, His Majesty instructed the newspaper's management and editorial team to exercise greater diligence and to thoroughly vet all materials before publication.

Meanwhile, the Home Ministry has announced the launch of an investigation into Sin Chew Daily for publishing an incomplete version of the Jalur Gemilang. The ministry described the act as a serious offence under national law and warned that firm action would be taken for undermining public harmony and the sanctity of national symbols.
