BANGKOK, April 24 — Thailand’s Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a petition accusing 44 current and former opposition lawmakers of ethics violations over their 2021 move to amend a law protecting the monarchy from criticism, according to Thai media reports.
KUALA LUMPUR, March 12 — The Vehicle Access Management System (VAMS) is currently being tested at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (T2) in Sepang, following its full implementation at Terminal 1 last year.
The trial, which will run until March 30, covers both departure and arrival kerbside areas. It introduces timed entry and exit through automated barrier gates aimed at improving traffic flow, Malaysia Airports said in a statement today.
Once the trial period concludes, vehicles that remain beyond the permitted kerbside time will be subject to charges.
Malaysia Airports managing director Mohd Izani Ghani said the second phase of the VAMS rollout at T2 reflects the airport operator’s commitment to enhancing service quality at KLIA.
“By improving kerbside traffic flow and ensuring quicker vehicle turnover, the system helps create a smoother and safer experience for passengers as well as those dropping off or picking up travellers, especially as travel demand continues to rise,” he said.
Under the system, drivers are given a 10-minute grace period for passenger drop-offs or pick-ups. During the ongoing trial period, no penalties will be imposed as authorities observe traffic patterns and driver behaviour.
Terminal 2 currently records an average of around 16,000 vehicle movements daily at its kerbsides, and the trial will help determine any operational adjustments before the system is fully enforced.
When the system was introduced at Terminal 1 last year, congestion was significantly reduced, with fewer than one per cent of the roughly 43,000 daily vehicles exceeding the allowed time limit.
