KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 — The board of Foon Yew High School in Kulai, Johor, has announced the expulsion of a student involved in distributing deepfake pornographic images of students and alumni.

In response to online claims, the board clarified that the student did not receive a mere warning but was expelled from the school.

“We have instructed the school to treat this incident with the utmost seriousness,” the board stated in a press release, as reported by the Malaysiakini news portal.

The student’s parents were officially notified of the expulsion after internal discussions. The school also acknowledged its delay in addressing the matter and assured that stricter measures would be put in place moving forward.

Additionally, the school pledged full support to the victims and their families, offering counseling services both internally and through external professionals. Strict confidentiality will be upheld, and legal assistance will be provided to those impacted by the abuse of images.

An internal investigation concluded that the online allegations against a disciplinary teacher were unfounded and misrepresented, according to the board.

The school is fully cooperating with the police to identify the individual behind the anonymous “Li Xiaobai” account linked to the online harassment.

Police have arrested a 16-year-old in Johor, suspected of using AI to create and sell deepfake pornography using victims’ social media images. The case, now involving multiple complainants, underscores the serious consequences of digital manipulation.

The investigation is being conducted under the Penal Code and the Communications and Multimedia Act.
