LANGKAWI, May 20 — The peaceful skies and waters of Langkawi will once again come alive with the roar of jet engines and the presence of international defence assets as the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA’25) makes its return.

With the theme ‘Today’s Innovation, Tomorrow’s Achievements’, the 17th edition of LIMA officially began last night, officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Langkawi International Convention Centre (LICC).

This morning at 8.30 am, the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) will host the Gracing Ceremony and Opening Gambit at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC), with Anwar officiating the launch alongside Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

The event will feature captivating aerobatic performances by teams from several countries, including Russia’s famous Russian Knights, known for their precise formation flying with large aircraft.

Indonesia’s Jupiter Aerobatic Team will also impress spectators with their signature “Jupiter Roll” using six red-and-white KT-1B Woongbi aircraft, symbolising the national colours.

Representing Malaysia, the RMAF will present their Su-30MKM fighter jets under the striking new theme ‘Toruk Makto’, inspired by the legendary beast ‘The Last Shadow’ from the film Avatar.

Later in the day, the Prime Minister will officiate the Maritime Gracing Ceremony at Resorts World Langkawi (RWL), followed by the LIMA’25 fleet review — a ceremonial naval inspection involving vessels from various nations.

Throughout the five-day exhibition, the skies and seas of Langkawi will host dynamic demonstrations by cutting-edge aircraft, helicopters, and naval assets from around the world. This year’s edition will feature a total of 57 aircraft and 39 maritime assets, with participation from countries including Brazil, France, Italy, Singapore, Indonesia, and the United States.

Jointly organised by the Ministry of Defence and Global Exhibitions and Conferences Sdn Bhd (GEC), LIMA’25 continues to serve as Southeast Asia’s premier platform for maritime and aerospace innovation, fostering industry advancement and global collaboration since its debut in 1991. — Bernama
