KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 — The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) anticipates a significant traffic surge, with up to 2.77 million vehicles expected daily on major expressways during the upcoming Aidilfitri holiday.

In a statement, LLM estimated that expressways under the PLUS Group would see around 2.1 million vehicles, followed by 216,000 on the KL-Karak Expressway (KLK), 176,000 on the West Coast Expressway (WCE), 156,000 on the East Coast Expressway 1 (LPT1), and 70,000 on LPT2 during peak festive days.

Traffic leaving the capital towards the east coast, northern, and southern regions is projected to increase from today, influenced by the Ministry of Education’s additional school holidays from April 2 to 4. Meanwhile, return traffic to the capital is expected to peak on April 5 and 6.

To alleviate congestion, LLM has implemented several measures, including restricting highway lane closures by concessionaires—except for emergency works—from March 24 to April 7.

Additionally, smart lanes have been activated at 28 designated locations along the PLUS Expressway, allowing motorists to use emergency lanes as alternative routes during heavy congestion. Drivers are advised to follow the provided traffic signs.

“Motorcyclists are urged to remain cautious while riding and take note of smart lane activations. Furthermore, 472 motorcycle shelters have been set up along the highways,” the statement added.

LLM also called on major highway concessionaires to ensure the smooth operation of toll collection systems and maintain highways in optimal condition. Various facilities, including parking spaces and temporary mobile toilets, have been provided to accommodate travelers. In collaboration with petrol station operators, efforts have been made to ensure an adequate fuel supply for motorists.

A ban on goods vehicles will also be enforced on March 29-30 and April 5-6 to help ease traffic flow on major expressways.

Motorists are encouraged to plan their trips using the MyPLUS-TTA app for PLUS Expressway travel, while those using KLK and LPT1 should refer to the Travel Time Advisory (TTA) by AFA Prime.

Real-time traffic updates and incident reports are available via LLM’s official social media channels, or by contacting the LLM Traffic Management Centre at 1-800-88-7752, which operates 24/7 from March 28 to April 6. — Bernama
