KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 — The government is proposing amendments to the Road Transport Act 1987 to allow local authorities (PBT) to take action against abandoned vehicles in strata residential areas.

Deputy Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu said PBTs currently cannot enforce rules in private strata properties without cooperation from JMBs or MCs, which are governed under the Strata Management Act 2013.

The proposed changes are being finalised with agencies including the Road Transport Department and the police.

She added that Section 65 of Act 333 may also be used to speed up vehicle disposal without court processes, while JPJ’s e-Dereg system offers a faster voluntary disposal option. — Bernama
