WASHINGTON, May 21 — US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said yesterday that he expects Russia to present a ceasefire proposal for Ukraine within days — a move that could reveal Moscow’s true intentions — as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused the Kremlin of stalling for time.
TELUK INTAN, May 14 – The lorry driver involved in the fatal crash that claimed the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) officers on Jalan Sungai Manik-Sungai Lampam has been remanded for four days, according to the New Straits Times.
The remand order, issued under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code, was approved by Magistrate Naidatul Athirah Azman following a request from Hilir Perak police chief Assistant Commissioner Bakri Zainal Abidin. The remand period runs from today until Saturday, as investigations continue under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving resulting in death.
The 45-year-old suspect appeared in court around 8.50am, dressed in a black shirt and dark blue tracksuit.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay clarified yesterday that no ketum was found in the lorry, and the driver tested negative for drugs.
He also revealed that the driver has six prior criminal convictions—one each for drug-related offences and rape, and four for theft. All cases have previously been heard and sentenced in court.
Earlier this morning, the final honours for the nine fallen FRU members were conducted with full Royal Malaysia Police ceremonial rites at the FRU Unit 5 base in Sungai Senam, Ipoh.
The tragic accident occurred yesterday when a lorry carrying gravel collided with an FRU truck transporting 15 personnel, killing nine and injuring two. Preliminary investigations suggest the crash may have been caused by a steering wheel failure.
