KUANTAN, May 12 — A senior executive of a government agency has been remanded for seven days over allegations of receiving RM8,000 in bribes.
According to sources, the man in his 40s was arrested around 4pm yesterday when he turned up to give a statement at the Pahang office of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
Initial investigations suggest the suspect is believed to have committed the offence in 2024 by allegedly helping a construction company and a contractor secure contracts, approve work evaluations, obtain completion certificates and speed up payment claims.
He is also suspected of receiving bribes from the companies via bank transfers into his personal account.
A seven-day remand order until May 18 was granted by Magistrate Tengku Eliana Tuan Kamaruzaman at the Kuantan Magistrate’s Court this morning following an application by MACC.
Pahang MACC director Mohd Shukor Mahmud confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009. — Bernama
