MADRID, Sept 14 — Spanish firefighters discovered a man’s body today while sifting through the rubble of a Madrid bar destroyed in an explosion that injured 25 people, two of them seriously.

Authorities suspect a gas leak may have caused the blast, which tore through the Vallecas neighbourhood yesterday, though officials stressed it is still too early to confirm the exact cause.

Firefighters, assisted by sniffer dogs, carefully removed debris by hand from the ground floor amid collapsed walls and twisted framework.

“The work has been very complicated, involving a large team, as we had to proceed almost stone by stone and brick by brick,” fire service spokesman Javier Ramos explained.

Madrid emergency services confirmed on X that the victim’s body was recovered early this morning, with civil protection staff providing support to the family.
