BANGKOK, April 24 — Thailand’s Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a petition accusing 44 current and former opposition lawmakers of ethics violations over their 2021 move to amend a law protecting the monarchy from criticism, according to Thai media reports.
MELAKA, Sept 8 — Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is reinforcing its commitment to strengthening emergency management across its airport network, ensuring alignment with international standards and prioritising passenger safety.
MAHB managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani said nearly 60 million passengers had travelled through Malaysia’s airports as of July 2025, making preparedness a key factor in sustaining global confidence in the nation’s aviation sector.
“This commitment is reflected through the Airport Fire and Rescue Service (AFRS), where every member and officer is required to comply with the Civil Aviation (Aerodrome Operations) Regulations 2016.
“In addition, we adhere to the requirements of the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), which are in line with the Standards and Recommended Practices set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO),” he said at the 14th AFRS Training Graduation Parade held at Melaka International Airport (LTAM), officiated by the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Melaka, Tun Mohd Ali Rustam.
Mohd Izani stressed that such compliance was vital to maintaining Malaysia’s airports at the highest level of emergency readiness and operational efficiency. He noted that the AFRS, as the frontline of flight safety, must act swiftly while demonstrating knowledge, discipline, and courage in handling ground emergencies.
“AFRS is the backbone of airport safety, and confidence in its preparedness underpins the positive experience of every traveller. This focus is also a crucial element in gearing up for Visit Malaysia Year 2026,” he added.
The event marked the graduation of 159 trainees who completed 23 weeks of rigorous training beginning April 15. The programme comprised three stages: transition and consolidation, basic training, and a final ‘on-the-job training’ phase.
Beyond physical and mental challenges, the training instilled discipline, camaraderie, spiritual resilience, technical expertise, and knowledge of civil aviation laws, all benchmarked to international standards. — Bernama
