In karate, defending champion C. Shahmalarani claimed her third consecutive gold in the women’s kumite under-50kg event at Chaeng Watthana Government Complex. Debutant K. Thevendran also shone, defeating Vietnam’s Chu Van Duc 4-0 to win the men’s kumite under-55kg.
In athletics at Suphachalasai Stadium, Nani Sahirah Maryata broke her own national record in the women’s shot put with a 16.36m throw to win gold, while Grace Wong Xiu Mei dominated the women’s hammer throw, breaking the Games record four times in a single day, with a best throw of 65.41m setting new national and Games records.
Veteran snooker player Thor Chuan Leong rounded off Malaysia’s gold haul, defeating local Danjirakul Poramin 5-2 at Thunder Dome Muang Thong Thani, marking Malaysia’s tenth gold overall in the Games.
As of 10pm local time (11pm Malaysia time), Thailand led the medal table with 66 golds, 43 silvers, and 28 bronzes, followed by Vietnam (24, 17, 43) and Indonesia (20, 28, 24), while Malaysia climbed to sixth with a total of 10 golds, 13 silvers, and 33 bronzes. — Bernama
