BANGKOK, April 24 — Thailand’s Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a petition accusing 44 current and former opposition lawmakers of ethics violations over their 2021 move to amend a law protecting the monarchy from criticism, according to Thai media reports.
KANGAR, March 8 — The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) early yesterday seized nearly 16,500 e-cigarette devices worth more than RM500,000 at the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority jetty in Kuala Sanglang, believed to be intended for smuggling to a neighbouring country.
Kedah and Perlis Maritime director Romli Mustafa said the seizure followed the interception of a lorry at 1.15am, based on intelligence gathered from maritime zones in Kedah, Perlis, Kuala Perlis and Kuala Kedah.
“Checks revealed the vehicle, driven by a man with two local male workers aged between 19 and 47, was carrying 56 brown boxes containing nearly 16,500 vape devices of various types.
“The devices are believed to have been intended for smuggling to a neighbouring country via a fibreglass boat waiting at the river mouth,” he said during a press conference at the Kuala Perlis Maritime Zone office in Kangar today.
Romli added that the lorry and the three men were taken to the Kuala Perlis Maritime Zone office, with the case being investigated under Sections 135(1)(a) and (d) of the Customs Act 1967.
He said authorities will take a firm stance against smuggling activities by intensifying patrols and enforcement in national waters ahead of the festive season. — Bernama
