KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 — The Royal Malaysian Air Force’s (RMAF) Su-30MKM fighter jet has been revealed with a striking new livery titled ‘Toruk Makto’, ahead of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA ’25).

In a statement today, RMAF explained that the aircraft’s new look draws inspiration from the mythical creature known as the Toruk, or ‘The Last Shadow’, featured in the film Avatar. In the movie, the title “Toruk Makto” is bestowed upon individuals who manage to tame and ride the beast — a symbol of purity, courage, and noble spirit.

RMAF likened this symbolism to its own Su-30MKM pilots, stating that those who command the 4.5-generation multirole fighter, known for its supermaneuverability and advanced weapon systems, must possess not only skill but also a strong and virtuous character.

“These pilots are the chosen few, defined not just by their capabilities, but by the purity of their spirit,” the statement read.

“In the cockpit, pilots face life-or-death decisions in seconds — choices that demand a soul free of ego and personal motive.”

LIMA ’25, themed “Today’s Innovation, Tomorrow’s Achievements,” will be held in Langkawi from May 20 to 24. This edition will showcase 102 aircraft and 35 naval vessels from participating nations, continuing its legacy as one of Southeast Asia’s premier maritime and aerospace events since its inception in 1991. — Bernama
