BATU PAHAT, May 17 — The Accountant General’s Department (JANM) has recorded a total of RM13.3 billion in Unclaimed Money (WTD) as of April this year.

Accountant General Nor Yati Ahmad shared that since the WTD system was established in 1977, only about RM4 billion has been successfully reclaimed by rightful owners or their heirs.

She explained that this was likely due to a lack of awareness, as many people were either unaware they had unclaimed money or had never checked with JANM.

“Individuals can check or file claims through the official JANM portal, the eGumis application, or by visiting any JANM branch nationwide.

“We will continue to boost outreach efforts and public engagement to raise awareness about WTD, as only owners or their heirs are eligible to claim the funds,” she said at the launch of the Kampung Angkat Madani (KAM) and Santuni Madani Programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Minyak Beku today.

Speaking about the KAM initiative, she said it includes various community support activities and infrastructure development projects.

In collaboration with Bank Rakyat, a WTD counter was also set up at the event to help open children’s savings accounts, with a RM20 incentive per account. Other activities focused on serving the community.

Among the physical development efforts were upgrading water supply systems, repairing Islamic community halls, building cemetery fences, improving funeral management facilities, and providing a funeral van.

She added that the KAM programme aims to narrow the development gap between rural and urban areas by enhancing basic infrastructure, community services, and ensuring access to internet connectivity.

Johor is the second location to implement the KAM programme, following its initial success in Kampung Lubuk Antu, Sarawak, last year. — Bernama
