KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 — Two foreign nationals have become the first individuals in Malaysia to be charged in court for littering under the newly enforced anti-littering law, according to a report by The Star.
IPOH, Feb 28 — A 32-year-old man who is feared to have drowned at a Tenaga Nasional Berhad substation at the Sultan Azlan Shah Dam in Ulu Kinta on Thursday is suspected of being involved in cable theft alongside an accomplice.
Ipoh district police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said Tanjung Rambutan police first received a report at about 12.40am regarding cable theft in the area, followed 10 minutes later by another report that a man was believed to have drowned near the same spot.
“The missing man is believed to have been involved in stealing cables with another suspect, who also fell into the water but was rescued after getting stuck on the dam embankment. He has since been detained to assist with investigations.
“The location has been identified as high risk. The Fire and Rescue Department is continuing search and rescue efforts for the missing suspect,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Meanwhile, Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said search efforts are being carried out using surface search methods around the reported drowning site.
He added that 10 personnel from the Tambun Fire and Rescue Station have been deployed, with assistance from the Water Rescue Team of the Ipoh Fire and Rescue Station.
“The operation also involves eight Royal Malaysia Police officers and 10 dam staff,” he said. — Bernama
