PARIS, June 26 — Europe’s ongoing heatwave has intensified, with record-breaking temperatures straining health systems, disrupting daily life and prompting a series of emergency measures across the continent.
KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 — A motorcyclist was killed after being thrown about 30 metres off a bridge in a crash involving an SUV and two motorcycles at KM15.8 of the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Expressway (SPE) yesterday afternoon.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the incident occurred around 4.40pm when a 21-year-old woman driving a Proton X50 reportedly lost control of her vehicle in heavy rain before skidding into two motorcycles that had stopped under a bridge for shelter.
He said a 31-year-old rider was flung from his motorcycle and fell approximately 30 metres below the bridge, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another motorcyclist and his 18-year-old pillion rider sustained facial injuries and are receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
An alcohol screening test on the driver returned negative, but she has been detained to assist investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Members of the public with information are urged to contact the Jalan Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station or the nearest police station. — Bernama
