PARIS, June 26 — Europe’s ongoing heatwave has intensified, with record-breaking temperatures straining health systems, disrupting daily life and prompting a series of emergency measures across the continent.
PONTOISE, June 25 — A three-year-old child was found dead in a car in the Paris region, a police source said today, marking the third such child fatality amid an ongoing extreme heatwave this week.
The boy was discovered in a vehicle parked outside his home, the source said, with civil defence confirming his death in the suburban town of Saint-Gratien.
France yesterday experienced its hottest day since records began in 1947, with the national average temperature reaching 30°C.
Paris Deputy Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire earlier said fatalities in the capital had been increasing, although no specific figures were provided.
Temperatures in Paris reached 40.3°C yesterday, exceeding 40°C for only the fourth time in 150 years of records.
On Monday, two other children aged two and four were also found dead inside a car parked in a residential area in Carpentras in southern France. — AFP
