BANGKOK, April 24 — Thailand’s Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a petition accusing 44 current and former opposition lawmakers of ethics violations over their 2021 move to amend a law protecting the monarchy from criticism, according to Thai media reports.
KUCHING, Jan 26 — A 28-year-old man pleaded not guilty at the Magistrates’ Court here today to allegedly maiming a female puppy near a beverage outlet earlier this month.
Charged under Section 428 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to three years, a fine, or both, he is accused of running over the puppy twice at the 6th Mile area on Jan 3. Bail was set at RM6,000 with two local sureties, and the court fixed Feb 27 for pre-trial case management. He was also ordered to report regularly to the police and comply with strict bail conditions.
The case, which went viral, drew the involvement of animal welfare groups Save Our Strays (S.O.S) and the Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA). SSPCA president Datin Seri Dona Drury Wee said the injured dog has received treatment and is currently under care at a veterinary clinic.
Meanwhile, the accused’s father was separately charged under Section 182 of the Penal Code for allegedly giving a false statement in a police report, claiming he was the driver involved. He pleaded not guilty, was granted RM1,500 bail, and his case was fixed for pre-trial management on March 3. — The Borneo Post
