SYDNEY, June 4 — Tech giant Meta has criticised Australia’s “grossly unfair” proposal to require social media companies to pay for news content, saying it strongly opposes the draft legislation.
KUANTAN, June 3 — A man who was believed to have been swept away by strong currents while attempting to cross Sungai Pahang at Kampung Peragap, Temerloh, yesterday has been found drowned.
A Pahang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) spokesperson said the body of Samsul Azmi Ishury, 41, was discovered at 9.35am today, about 2.2 kilometres from Kampung Loyang, Temerloh.
He said the body was recovered and handed over to police for further action.
The spokesperson added that one firefighter sustained a fractured left arm after being trapped between a boat and a fish cage during the search and rescue operation yesterday. The firefighter has been sent to Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, Temerloh, for treatment.
Besides the Fire and Rescue Department, the operation also involved police, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), and assistance from local villagers.
It was reported that the man was feared drowned after being swept away while attempting to swim across the river, with firefighters launching a search and rescue operation upon arriving at the scene at about 8am yesterday. — Bernama
