NEW YORK, May 23 — The Trump administration yesterday revoked Harvard University’s authorization to enroll foreign students—who make up over a quarter of its student body—in a sharp escalation of the president’s conflict with the prestigious institution.
BUTTERWORTH, May 11 — A mattress factory and a recycling plant in Kampung Tok Sani, located in the Sungai Lokan Industrial Area, were destroyed in a fire last night.
According to Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Mohamad Shoki Hamzah, an emergency call was received at 10.01pm, and the first fire engine from the Butterworth station arrived at the scene within 12 minutes.
“Upon arrival, firefighters found both adjacent factories engulfed in flames. Each facility spans approximately 11,900 square feet,” he said.
By the time firefighters arrived, about 60 per cent of the mattress factory and 70 per cent of the recycling plant had already been destroyed. The fire was brought under control by 10.51pm, successfully preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings.
Firefighting teams from the Jalan Perak, Perai, and Sungai Bakap stations, along with local volunteer fire brigades, were involved in containing the blaze.
Shoki added that the mattress factory was believed to have stored chemicals on site. No casualties were reported, and investigations into the cause of the fire and the estimated losses are ongoing. — Bernama
